Story

I consider this to be the center piece for the "Great Big Sky" album, tying all the crazy side stories together into one simplistic yell.  The lyrics act almost as a "last will and testament" for the main character.  Me in some ways I suppose, but don't we all have a similar yearning for simplicity and nature?  Most of us anyway. ;)

You can probably tell I was listening to a lot of Bluegrass when I wrote this one.  I'm pretty sure I "borrowed" the opening lick from Tony Rice.  Shhhhh...

Mountains of Montana

(C) 2012, Hike the Stone Music

Words and Music by: Daryl W. Dasher

I’m going back to the mountains of Montana

Back where my heart has never left

Back to the mountains of Montana

If I don’t go my soul will never rest

I don’t want to live in no flatlands

I’d done my share of that when I was a child

I’ve done my time in the South in the city, man ole man

I’d rather take my chances on the wild

Don’t bury me my friends in no graveyard

Don’t you lay me down in some forgotten tomb

Spread half my ashes down in Yellowstone

And toss the rest up high in the Beartooth Mountains
